Cold start to May; What does the rest of the month have in store?

It has been a very cold start to May thanks to high pressure ushering in cold southwesterly air across the country, while a cold snap on the 8th and 9th brought snow to higher hills in the South Island.

We are anticipating a warm up as we head through mid month, but more settled conditions are likely again as a new belt of high pressure move over New Zealand a bit later this month.
