At Severe Weather NZ, we understand the importance of staying informed about significant weather risks for individuals and communities across New Zealand. Our journey began on the 20th of June 2015, when Severe Weather NZ was launched as a result of the amalgamation of two dedicated Facebook pages. Driven by a shared passion for meteorology, we aimed to create a reliable platform where accurate forecasts of severe weather events in New Zealand could be easily accessible to the public.
With nearly a decade of experience, our Facebook page has garnered a strong and engaged following of over 20,000 people. We take pride in our commitment to meticulously observe multiple weather models to provide the most precise and dependable forecasts.
It's important to note that we do not issue official warnings or watches, as this authority lies with Metservice. However, at Severe Weather NZ, our primary goal is to present the public with an independent forecast that includes an associated probability risk for any potential severe weather event. By offering this perspective, we aim to empower individuals and communities to make informed decisions and take appropriate precautions in the face of impending weather challenges.
